“Volunteering at the CARE Hub has been one of the most rewarding things I’ve done. I really enjoy being part of a team that’s so passionate about helping others, and every shift feels meaningful. Whether I’m welcoming visitors, making cups of tea, or chatting with people who need support, I feel like I’m making a small difference in someone’s day. It’s also given me a lot personally - I’ve met great people, gained confidence, and learned new skills I never expected to. There’s a real sense of community and kindness at CARE, and that’s what keeps me coming back each week.”

VOLUNTEER OF THE MONTH
Jo joined the CARE Shop in late 2025, determined to rebuild her life after leaving a controlling marriage of 23 years. Originally from Malta, Jo moved to Cleethorpes eight years ago. With her children now grown up and only her Auntie to care for, she decided to spend her spare time giving back to her community by volunteering with CARE.
Now a familiar, friendly face in the shop several days a week, Jo loves the treasure hunt that charity shops offer. A fan of all things quirky and eccentric, she describes them as an "Aladdin's cave." But it wasn't just the bargains that drew her to CARE – from her very first visit, she was struck by the warmth and kindness shown by Sam, David and the team. Their friendship, along with the charity's values, inspired her to become a volunteer.
Since joining CARE, Jo says she's been made to feel welcome and at home. The friendships she's built have become incredibly special, and she now describes CARE as her second family. "I get laughter, joy, amazing friendship, and opportunities to help in so many ways. I couldn't wish for better because it isn't possible."
Jo brings her heart and soul into everything she does, including playing a huge part in making our recent birthday cake sale such a success.
